Smothering was a collaboration with M.A.M.A. members Joyce Dallal, Deborah Oliver, and Lisa Schoyer. In this installation, one wall held framed manipulated digital images from a child safety catalogue and actual safety devices that parents use to "child proof" their home, while sound from a child safety monitor transmitted voiced maternal anxieties. On the adjacent wall a warm protruding belly was surrounded by handwritten stories from adults describing difficult relationships with their mothers. In the center of the installation was an interactive sculpture made to look like an oversized children's toy with child care advice books threaded like beads. It was included in the exhibition "Nonzero Sum Games...." at the Brewery Project Room.
